The Viikin Raksi lure was born in the hands of Veikko Viikki from Vaajakoski – inspired by the stunning lakes of Central Finland and created for true needs of fishers. This lure has proved its strength and worked its way into the packs of fishers mainly by word-of-mouth for two decades.
Viikin Raksi combines the qualities of a plug with the temptation of natural baitfish. This lure works well in different speeds, which makes it an excellent bait whether you are into trolling or jigging. Three versions of the lure have been developed during the years – each designed to serve the taste of
different predator fish.
All Viikin Raksi products are handmade from start to finish. The lure has a patent, and development work is ongoing to provide fishers with even better and more effective baits in the future. In 2020 Viikin Raksi turned a new page in its history when the business was sold to a new owner. The story of this lure will now kick off its sequel in the hands of the family business Tuohia. In addition to Viikin Raksi, you will see new and innovative lures designed for true needs of fishers in the future.
Traditional Viikin Raksi
The traditional Viikin Raksi is a weighted lure with a diving tip. It is an excellent choice for trolling with plugs and spoons. The length of the bait fish is 12-13cm in the L-model and 15-16cm in the XL-model. The XL-model is great for trolling pike for example, whereas the traditional Viikin Raksi is best for catching trout and salmon. The lure has been tested twice in the Finnish outdoor magazine Erä, ranking as one of the best baits both times.
Viikin Raksi Zander
This livebait tackle is especially great for flowing waters where the boat is left to drift slowly. Insert the baitfish along the bodyline of the lure and close the hinge lock by pressing it. Hooks are fastened on both sides of the baitfish. The best baitfish for this lure are vendace, bleak, smelt and roach. The baitfish is lowered to the bottom and then lifted up approximately 20-30cm. This lure is named after its best catch: zander.
Spinning Raksi
What makes the Spinning Raksi different from the traditional Viikin Raksi is the spinning motion that the bait creates while swimming. This is achieved by pushing the bodyline along the spine of the baitfish, pressing the hinge lock closed and tightening the fishing line so that the baitfish is left slightly bent. The curve of the fish gives a spinning motion that can be adjusted from slow to fast by changing the amount of curve.
